Storm Damage / Insurance Claim Process

When Mother Nature Gets Mean

At Huber Construction, we see how powerful wind, rain, and hail can damage a home. That’s why we specialize in the insurance restoration process and storm damage repairs on a national level. It is our goal to repair and restore  your home to a condition better than it was before.

Insurance Restoration on a National Level

Huber Construction, Co. prides itself on having the skills and knowledge to help people in need all over the country. Huber Construction, Co. has also earned the backing of national suppliers to assist us in providing the highest quality materials all over the country.

Here are some reasons why to go with a nationally seasoned insurance restoration contractor:

1) There is a time limit set by insurance companies to complete your work. Without the help of national contractors coming into your market and repairing your home in a timely manner it is possible those time limits may lapse and could cause you difficulties with your claim.

2) Most national storm contractors

Hail, wind and rain can wreak havoc on our homes, causing untold amounts of damage and issues that require your immediate attention to thwart any additional problems. It’s also when unscrupulous contractors tap on your front door seeking work at what seems to be an incredibly good price.

In reality the door-to-door scams are little more than an effort to part you with your money, warns a number of consumer protection groups, and in the end you’re likely to have more problems than you started with and fewer dollars as a result.

In a recent poll of its membership, Angie’s List found 34 percent of those who experienced any storm damage were approached by a contractor to do the work. Not only was it priced cheaply, but was to be paid in cash.

“One of our members said she was desperate and didn’t know what to do,” list founder Angie Hicks said. “That homeowner was taken by almost every she had dealings with.”

Scrimping on the cost of the project — especially when you have little clue what that cost should be — may seem frugal, but it’s not very bright. A cheap, fast deal is tempting, but foolhardy to take the first that appears.

A few key tips before hiring someone to fix your damage:

* Get at least 3 written estimates. It’s time consuming and inconvenient, but you’ll feel better in the end. Oral estimates are not worth the paper they’re written on.

* Check licensing requirements and permits in your area. Ensure the business is indeed licensed, permitted and, if necessary, credentialed.

* Refuse to pay in cash. That’s a sure sign of a scam. Some require a deposit. Make sure it’s no more than 1/2 the job, though some ask for as little as 10 percent while others ask nothing, which is best. Pay for the work that’s done.

* If you can, have a home inspector survey the extent of the damage to ensure you’re capturing all that requires fixing.

* Check the local Better Business Bureau, as well as online consumer-review pages that might give you some insight to the business trying to solicit your work.

* Always check references and remember, it’s possible they’ve been fabricated or are close associates. Go see the work yourself.
